The Beginning of Our Journey
What started as a family dream in 1985 has grown into the beloved Cafe Rio you know today. Our founders, Maria and Carlos Rivera, immigrated from Jalisco, Mexico, carrying with them centuries-old recipes and an unwavering commitment to authentic flavors.
They opened our first location in Yountville with just three tables, a small kitchen, and hearts full of hope. Word spread quickly about the incredible taste of our handmade tortillas, slow-cooked carnitas, and fresh salsas made daily from scratch.
Today, we continue to honor their legacy by maintaining the same dedication to quality, authenticity, and the warm hospitality that makes every guest feel like family.

1985
The Dream Begins
Maria and Carlos Rivera open the first Cafe Rio in a small storefront in Yountville with just three tables and a vision to share authentic Mexican flavors with their new community.
1992
Growing Recognition
Cafe Rio wins its first "Best Mexican Restaurant" award from the local newspaper, and word spreads throughout Napa Valley about our exceptional food and hospitality.
1998
Major Expansion
We expand to our current larger location, featuring a beautiful dining room, expanded kitchen, and our famous patio where guests can enjoy meals under the California sun.
2005
Next Generation
